Sharda Peeth (hindu Temple in Azad Kashmir)

Sharada Peeth temple is a ruined Hindu temple and oldster centre of learning located in the Neelum Valley of Pakistan-administered Azad Kashmir in the disputed Kashmir region. Between the 6th and 12th centuries, it was among the most prominent temple universities in the Indian subcontinent.

Who destroyed Sharda Peeth Temple?

In 1947, taking advantage of the confusion over Kashmir's accession, Pak Army Regulars and Pashtun tribals invaded Kashmir. Sharda Peeth, situated on the banks of Kishan ganga river, fell into Pakistani hands and became an abandoned structure. The Kashmir earthquake of 2005 led to further destruction of the Shrine.
